117th Congress S. Bill 162
Support the Effort to Categorize Racism as a Public Health Crisis
Leslie Chiu
Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley and many of her cohorts introduced in February H. R. 666, the Anti-Racism in Public Health Act of 2021. Institutional and systemic racism are a serious threat to freedoms that are constitutionally guaranteed in America. Our Federal government needs to enforce practices to restore safety for minorities in American communities. This legislation takes a unique approach by utilizing the CDC's ability to perform data analysis. The CDC can engage with research to identify solutions that may help dismantle systems of racism that have endured for hundreds of years. Categorizing racism as the public health crisis it poses to many Americans every day should be a priority of Congress.
