117th Congress H. Bill 2364
Support a Public Education Campaign on the Dangers of Fentanyl
Max Rosenzweig
Fentanyl overdoses have become the leading cause of death for adults between the ages of 18 and 45, according to new data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Congressman Andy Kim (D-NJ) proposed The Synthetic Opioid Danger Awareness Act (H.R.2364) to provide relief to this rapidly worsening epidemic. H.R.2364 requires the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to launch a public education campaign on the dangers of synthetic opioids. H.R.2364 calls for the HHS to produce training materials to prevent exposure to synthetic opioids for first responders and others who are at high risk of exposure. These materials must be disseminated to ambulances, local sheriffs, and other first responders under the bill. It is critical that the opioid crisis in the United States is addressed immediately, and I believe that H.R.2364 is a step in the right direction.
