117th Congress H. Bill 587
Save Our Seas! The Ocean Pollution Reduction Act
Arash Ghalebi
H.R. 587, the Ocean Pollution Reduction Act II is a simple piece of legislation that will effectively and directly limit harmful pollution by a particular treatment plant. While blanket regulations may be difficult to justify to some congressional voters, laws that are focused on specific polluters may convince more hesitant regulators. This bill provides an precedent in Congress for individualizing legislation to regulate particular offenders. The House has done a remarkable job passing this piece of legislation to curb the ocean pollution that the Point Loma Wastewater Plant creates. I urge support for this bill to pass through the Senate and into law. I am hopeful that we will see more Members requesting support from Federal colleagues for serious pollution problems in respective localities.
