117th Congress H. Bill 1112

Narrowest Possible Means Necessary in U.S. engagement with Burmese Coup

Steven Tulley

H.R. 1112, Protect Democracy in Burma Act of 2021 has passed in the House, and it hopefully will not pass the Senate. Promotion of Democratic values abroad is an important function of the United States Federal Government, but I oppose the broad and open terms of engagement outlined in this Bill. We must exhibit great restraint in the plans that dictate American regime change interventions. The plans to influence the United Nations within this bill are palatable, but I see a need for narrower terms dictating U.S. interactions with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
