H.R.5578 bans steel-jaw leghold traps and Conibear traps and establishes penalties for violating this ban. Steel-jaw leghold traps and Conibear traps are discreet, deadly traps that are used for unnecessarily inhumane hunting and pest control procedures. More than an inhumane practice to subject wildlife to, these traps pose permanent threat of long-term damage to unknowing civilians. The U.S. can put a rest to these archaic devices with the passage of this legislation.
